Truett Racing Camp Coker Bullet Round 2 XC3 Race Report
We at OTR Wheel Engineering are proud to be sponsoring Truett Racing. Truett Racing is a racing family competing with a 2016 Polaris RZR XP 1000 running the number 117 and a 2017 Polaris Ace 900 XC running the same number in the Ace class at GNCC. Collin, Mitch, and Alex Truett make up the family PRO Class UTV racing team. They are sponsored by Polaris, Corbeau Seats, SuperATV, Turtle Labs, Truett Insulation, and OTR Wheel Engineering.
This is the fourth in a series of ‘Race Reports’ that will give our readers some insight into the highly competitive sport that is UTV racing! The fourth Race Report we have is written by Mitch Truett and covers the Camp Coker Bullet Society Hill, SC Round 2 XC3 race, which took place in Society Hill, South Carolina April 22nd through April 23rd, 2017:
After some good game planning on how to better let Collin know where he was during the race by pit boards, we loaded up and headed to Society Hill SC for Round two of the GNCC.
The SC soil was basically the same as Florida so we decided to stick with our 26″ OTR Wizzard® tires.
Collin earned a 6th place in Round one, so he was starting on Row 2 of his class here. He got off the line good and got the hole shot. He quickly went to work applying what we considered to be a better race game plan this time. By the end of lap one he had not only caught all of the guys taking off from the row in front of him, he had also managed to pass each one of them too! This not only put him in the lead timing wise, but also physically in his class as well. Collin knew he was in the lead of his class, but he still continued to push the pace and charge to pass each person he came up on.
75 cars entered into this round, and this charge netted him a 6th place overall after lap one! That’s Right! Timing wise, he was running right behind last years champion, Yamaha’s Cody Miller. He was also right in front of Polaris Drivers Michael Swift, Kevin Trantham, Sean Bogdan and round 1 winner Cohl Secoy too. Plus, he was only 9 seconds off the 3rd place time of CanAm’s Jamie McCoy. Lap two, he came around first in class and 8th over all. Lap 3 was only 1 second off his 2nd lap time so it was obvious he was comfortable at this pace. He still had the XC3 class Lead, but had dropped back to 10th over all.
Truett Racing walked away from South Carolina with a win in XC3 by 44 seconds, and a 15th over all out of 75 cars. Collin is also leading the XC3 class with a 4 point lead.
