Below is a race report on the weekend from OTR’s very own sponsored racer Collin Truett:
We finally loaded up the cars on Wednesday to get on the road Thursday to head towards Kentucky. We left around lunch time because the drive wasn’t that far of a drive for us this round. We did a little site lap of the track early Friday morning and got the see a bit of what we’d be racing. The track didn’t actually have many difficult obstacles that Pro Rock Racing prides themselves with. It was a fast flowing track. The reason they did this was because it was supposed to rain all weekend no stop so they didn’t want any major bottle neck type situations. After pre-running was closed qualifying for the starting positions began. After qualifying was all said and done I ended up starting in 9th, still need to work on my qualifying ability. We works out some strategies that night and called it an early night.
Race day started early with a drivers meeting at 7am. When we first woke up at 5:30 it was not raining so we decided to go back to sleep since we didn’t need prep like we planned. While we took our 30 minute post sleep nap it started raining, it was a light rain though, just enough to knock the dust down and slick up the track a bit. Our race finally started at 10:30 and I was starting in 9th. Everyone was taking off 10 seconds apart so that put me a cool crisp 80 seconds behind first so I know I had my work cut out for me. I only passed 1 car the first lap but start to quickly catch the group up ahead of me. I started passing cars crazy back and forth and before I knew it I was in the middle of a heated 6 car battle which involved my craziest pass yet. Two cars we ahead of me and they both decided to roll a jump that Pro Rock Racing had put in for the spectators and I jumped straight between them. I swear I landed on one of their tires or roof I’m not sure. That pass freaked me out a good bit because it was accidental but looked super cool and was super effective! I finally worked my way through 7 drivers that started in front of me and it left my whole last lap clear minus some lap traffic. Jamie McCoy was leading by a long shot so I had no shot of catching him physically but I just had 80 seconds to make up. I put the hammer down and my Polaris XP turbo with the trusty OTR Wizzard–HP-009 setup RIPPED. I hit almost every mark mark right and went as fast as I could, catching 80 in some spots. By the end of the final lap I had finally reeled Jamie back in but not enough. He beat me by 24 seconds in the end but I still held 2 of the fastest laps of the race by 14 seconds! That Turbo might be the key.
That capped off another exciting weekend of racing and another Fantastic showing for OTR!
