Tips for the First Time Lawnmower Buyer

The official start of summer is almost here, however to many of us it seems it started a few weeks ago. Whether it is the increased chance of afternoon showers or the seemingly drastic change in temperature, we all have reason to believe summer started much earlier this year. Regardless of whether or not it is officially summer, there is no denying the shifts in plant life which require more immediate and persistent care. While many people rely on lawn services to provide that care to their lawns and gardens, an ever increasing amount of people are wanting to take care of their lawn and garden themselves. In order to help those people get started into the world of lawn and garden upkeep, we have decided to focus today’s blog on tips for choosing a lawnmower, an integral tool in lawn and garden maintenance. Before you begin your search, please take some time to answer the following questions (courtesy of All About Lawns).

  • How big is your lawn?
  • Are there any slopes or steep grades?
  • Are there obstacles like trees or flower beds?
  • How dense is your grass? This will determine blade size and rotation.
  • What is your environment like? Consider whether noise or air pollution is a concern for you or your neighbors, or whether there are young children or animals around. Also investigate your neighborhood’s zoning laws: are there restrictions on noise, certain types of engines, or other zoning issues?
  • How much can you spend?

After you have figured out the answers to the above questions, make sure to check out the video and links in the resources section for information regarding what types of lawnmowers will fit your specific needs.
